Reflecting about Changing the World

We have spent the last six weeks, editing, writing, revising, researching, and collaborating on your Change the World paper. I want you to think back over the last six weeks and think about your writing, your final product, your action plan, peer editing, Diigo, etc..

1- Are you proud of your final product? Why or why not?
2- How was this paper different than others you have written?
3- What did you like the most about this paper?
4- What would you change about this paper?
5- How helpful were the writing conferences and writing lab?
6- How helpful was peer editing?
7- What did you think of Diigo? Did it help you?
8- Do you think you can make a difference in this world?
9- Final thoughts...

  1. 1.-I thought my final product was ok,not my best work, maybe because I chose a tough topic.
2.- This paper was not really different from others I wrote because, we did not use personal words and there was multiple paragraphs.
3.- All the research was the best thing about this paper because I learned some things.
4.-I would make it better by making the wording sound better.
9.- All in all it was just another paper, not a great one, but not a bad one.

  2. I am proud of my final product because I let my thoughts out about the topic.
The paper was better because the actual topic was a choice.
I liked that the topic was your choice.
Peer editing was helpful because it gave other people's views on the subject.
I don't have any final thoughts.

  3. I was very proud of my final draft because I worked hard and did my best. This paper was different because we could write about anything we wanted instead of being told what to write. I liked being able to write about anything I wanted because I could put passion into my writing. I wouldn't change anything about the paper, i liked the format and the prompt. They were very helpful, I got lots of editing and things I should add from writing lab. Peer editing didn't help me that much because I didn't get much feed back. Diigo was extremely helpful, all my information was in one spot that was very accessable. I believe anyone can make a difference in the world, it is up to if that person believes in themself.

  4. I am very proud of my CTW paper. Writing it was very different than a regular paper. The subject was much more serious and meant more to me. I liked learning about the problem but loved thinking of ways to fix it. If I could go back Would not change one thing. Peer editing and writing lab were both very helpful to me; the editors found errors I hadn't seen. Diigo was not as helpful as I thought it would be. Although, it did help me when I could go back to see the sites I linked. I hope my paper can make a difference in our world.

  5. I am very proud of my final product because I explained the effects of global warming and how to change it in a way that people can understand. This paper was different from others I have written because this took a lot of research and time to finish. I liked how we took the time to research the topic thoroughly. I would change all the other things we had to do along with this paper. The writing conferences were very helpful because I saw what I needed to change and work on more. Peer editing was helpful because I got an opinion of my friends of how my paper was. Diigo wasn't that helpful because I didn't use it that much. Yes if I try hard at it. This paper was not fun to write but it helped make me a better writer.

  6. I am sort of proud of my final product of the change the world paper, only because I think I could have done more, just didn’t know how. This paper was different because it was longer and took longer to right. It also required a lot of thinking and researching. I liked researching about my topic and finding information most people don’t think about. I would change my topic, because there is only so much information and I ended up having to repeat some stuff I said to make four paragraphs. I forgot to do the conferences. Peer editing was useful if the person editing yours was actually good at editing. Diigo was helpful to keep all my site available and at hand. I don’t think I can make a difference because I don’t care all that much.

  7. I am very proud of my final product because I worked hard on it and stayed ahead of writing it. This paper is different from other papers I have written becaue it took us six week to finish it. I liked the writing conferences the best, because whatever teacher helped you, they got your paper done faster and you knew that it was correct because they now what to look for. I would not change anything about my paper, becaue I worked hard on it and I am very proud of my work. Peer editing really did not help me because the day before we would peer edit, I would go to writing lab and Mrs. Smith would fix it and it would be okay. In peer editing they marked something wrong that either Mrs. Smith marked or nothing was wrong with my paper. Most of the comments did not help me on my paper. Diigo helped a lot, because it helped you organize your work and you could mark it up just like a book. I think I can make a difference in this world. I liked writing this paper.

  8. I am proud of my final project because I put a lot of work into that paper. This paper was different from ones I have written in the past because with the other papers, we took them home and wrote them but didn't work on them in school. What I liked most about this paper is turning it in and finishing it. I wouldn't change anything about this paper. Peer editing was very helpful because we got information from people in our own situation. I think that I could make a difference in the world in the right place at the right time.

  9. I 'm proud of my final product because I feel that there was nothing else that I could do to it to make it better. This paper is different than other papers because I had to find a quote for every point I made. I liked looking deeper into political corruption in this country. I would change the length of the paper because I feel I could have said the same thing in a lot less words. The writing conferences were very helpful because I was getting advice from the English teachers who know writing very well. The peer editing was not very helpful because when I came back to my computer nothing had been said to help improve the paper. Diigo did not help me that much because I forgot about the links that I had found and look for new links for each point. I think that I can make little change in the world but enough change to make more people push the change through the world.

  10. I am proud of my final product and the quality that went into it from writing lab to Diigo. I am proud of my final product because I invested time and effort revising and editing my paper. I liked the facts in my paper the most because of shocking the facts were. I would change my explanations a little bit more. The writing conferences and writing lab was extremely helpful because it allowed me to see and change my mistakes directly. Peer editing was also good because it allowed me to see all the faults that I did. Diigo was an extremely useful tool because it allowed me to see all the information in front of me while typing the paper. In the end I do think I could make a difference because major people today make a big part of our nation proving that one person can make a difference. This paper was a good topic to write about because information was available and you can pick the topic of your choice. I am proud of my final project because of using the tools like Diigo and writing lab that helped to improve my writing.

  11. I am proud of my final paper because I have worked so hard on it.The paper matters because you get to show your opinion on world problems and reflect on the situation. Writing lab helped me because my mistakes in my paper were corrected and got extra feedback. Diigo helped me out by putting all my sources in one place to get organized. The paper also makes you think how you can solve some of the problems u to and causes you to find a solution. The paper was a great way to talk about problems on this earth and take action.

  12. I was very proud of my final project because I finally got it off my chest. The difficulty of this paper was very high compared to the other essays we have written. The thing that I liked was the fact that we could write about something that we cared about. If I could go back I would change my planning precess to allow me more editing time. Writing confrences were very helpful in the fact that it allowed us to sit down with a teacher and revise our work. Peer editing was not very helpful because no one took it seriously. Diigo was great because you could keep all of your information in one spot and always have it with you. I do think that I can make a difference in the world after writing this paper. This paper was pretty hard but the formats helped alot.

  13. 1- I am proud of my work on the CTW paper. I worked hard and did lots of research.
2- This paper is different from others because we are writing about something that we want to change. We as students are alwod to pick te topic instead of following a pre-determind prompt.
3- What I liked most about the paper is that we were allowed to choose our own topics. Unlike CSAP prompts.
4- One thing I would change is the work cited. Instead of having a work cited, the papers should be turned in electronicly with hyperlinks by the quotes.
5- Writing confrences where very heplful because it helped to catch some of teh little mistakes that otherwise would have gone unnoticed.
6- Peer editing was not as helpful, because people didn't always follow directions and most of their coments where unhelpful.
7- Diigo didn't help that much. I used it to find the requed 10 sites and never went back.
8- I beleive that if the govenor actualy reads my letter and doesnt ignore it, my paper should leave some impact.
9- My final thoughts would be that I liked this paper and it should be assigned next year.

  14. I am proud of my paper because I worked long and hard on this paper. It is different because this is the hardest I have ever worked in a paper. I like researching this paper because it was on a topic I found interesting. If I could change anything on this paper I would go more into detail on certain topics. the writing lab was very helpful on editing my paper. The peer edits were also very helpful with the citations. Diigo made this paper easy to write because I had all of my sources on one page. It is possible for me since my uncle General James Tate is friends with the commander of the United States Africa Command so I think that will make it easier for me to persuade them to take action. I think I did a great job on this paper.

  15. I was proud of my paper, maybe not the best but it wasn't half bad. This paper was different because there was a lot more work to put into it. My favorite part about the paper is you got to choose the subject. Peer editing was a big help for me on this paper. Diigo wasn't of much help, I could have gotten the information on my own. Me personally can not make a difference. There are simply too much people in this world. I could with more help.

  16. In my change the world paper I was very proud of my final product because I worked so hard on it and thought it was good quality work. With this paper i actually put my time into writing and proof reading this paper instead of just writing crap work down on paper. My favorite part of my CTW paper is my solution because it has great quotes and has great examples as to how I will change the world. If there was one thing that I could change about this paper it would be my attention getter because it is kind of related to the topic but not fully. Writing conferences and lab were very helpful to me and I think that it was good that we had to go in for lab and get help. Also peer editing was very helpful because had little small things that would have cost me two points. I think that Diigo was very helpful and very resourceful being able to look at your research this was very nice. I think that I can make a difference in the world because with a little change the world can become different and have a better life. Overall I think that this was one of my best writings and can change the world.

  17. I am so proud of my final project I put a lot of time into this paper and I couldn't be happier with it. This paper was much longer and took more time and effort than all the other papers I have written. I really liked how I got into my topic and I really felt a connection and my topic really mattered to me. I would change adding another paragraph to the paper and doing another one on gassing dogs in china because that is a real problem over there. The writing conferences were very helpful because they showed me what I needed to change and helped me get a better grade than I would have. Peer editing was very helpful because it was what your fellow classmates saw and how they wanted to help you paper. I didn't like diigo it was weird and I had trouble using it. I think I can make a difference in this world. I am looking into finding a summer job working with animals that were abused.

  18. Yes, I am very proud of myself and my final product because I spent many hours researching, writing, editing, and repeating the same process. This paper is different than others I have written because I spent much more time editing and writing than I do with other. Also everything needed to write this paper was on a computer. I liked researching the most about this paper because I found it interesting to learn new facts and figures. If I could I would change the MLA formatting because I found it difficult and so did other students because kids should be able to write how they want to write. The writing conferences, writing lab, and peer editing were extremely helpful because I got new ideas and corrected many errors. Diigo was great; it helped me a lot because it was easy to find reliable websites. Yes, I think I can make a difference in this world because even if you do something small you still make a difference in today’s world. This research paper was a good experience and I learned many things from it which will be helpful because in a couple weeks I will have to write a research paper for history which I know I will be ready for.

  19. When I first finished my violance in jeruslem essay I was so proud of all the work I put into that paper. This paper was diffrent froom other papers I have written because I really got into my topic violance in Jeruslem. What I liked most about this paper was the way it flowed it was by far one of the best things I have ever written. I would not jhange anything about this paper if I had the chance to I got it revised so many times i think its good. writting lab and confrences showed me how much the structure matters when writting a paper like this one. Peer editing also helped because it gave another point of view on my writting. Diigo was very difficult to use for me at least if I could change anything I would give a more deatailed crash corse in diigo. I think I can make a diffrence in the world.

  20. I am proud of my Change the World paper because I feel that alot of effort went into this paper. It is the culmination of copious articles worth of knowledge. This paper was very different from others I have written because I wrote it on Google Sites, allowing me to link to my sources and embed pictures into the text.I liked my Body paragraphs, they had alot of facts and i feel really presented my case. If I could change anything about my paper, I would of rewritten my conclusion and action plan. I felt that they were lacking and were the worst part of my essay. I think that the writing conferences were a verry valuable resource as we were told how to fix the problems instead of just being told what they were. As apposed to the peer edits, while usefull could be confusing at times. This is mainly because we couldnt ask eachother questions. I did not enjoy diigo that much, because i was unable to download the toolbar at home, I was unable to annotate and highlight text. Therefore i had to do most of it at school and it just became a core uploading the articles to the class group. I think that I can make a difference if my letters are read and put into an article. This was a fun paper for the class and i felt that it was inspirational.

  21. i am very proud of my project because i felt that i worked hard on it.this paper is different from the others because it is very long and there is a piece that we can do to help fix the problem. the research was my favorite part. the system that college football chooses a champion.writing lab and conferences made my paper good because they helped a lot with editing. i did not think peer editing was not helpful because there was no helpful feedback. diigo was alright it helpful in finding quote. yea if my action plan gets to the right people.

  22. I'm proud of my paper i think i could've done better b ut over all i think i did well.
Other papers ive written haven't been as structured as this paper as far as what was done in class.
one thing i would've done diferently is i would've done a better job listening and putting quotes in my paper.

  23. I am very proud of my paper because I feel I have put more work into this one piece than any other, and I think it shows. This is possibly the most moving thing I have written as an essay. It just felt more in depth than other writings. That's what I really liked the most, the feeling that I've outdone myself. I honestly think there isn't anything I want to change about my paper, since I think it is so amazing. The writing conferences were kind of a pain. It seemed like instead of trying to improve what I was saying, it was just bashing what I did wrong, and not acknowledging what I have done right. The peer editing I thought was a little useless. A lot of the feedback I got was incorrect; Things were getting edited that didn't need to be edited. Diigo was defiantly nice. I was very skeptical at first, since almost everything I am introduced to at school is garbage; however this made it very easy to pull something up to discuss it with a teacher. I feel this can make a difference if the right people read it. This was a fulfilling project.

  24. I am proud of my change the world paper because ist is one of the best papers I have ever wrote. This paper is different than every other paper that I have writen because it is much longer than my other paper and essays. What I liked most about this paper is that it is the best paper that I have writen before in my oppinion. One thing that I that i would have changed about my paper is to make my intro and body paragraphs longer. The writing conferences were helpfull when I was writing my paper because I got my paper edited by a teacher, or someone who would help me make my paper better. The peer editing was helpfull to me because fellow peers edited my paper pointing out the mistakes that I made on my paper. Diigo really helped me write my paper making it so I could get bookmarked webcites at any location. I live at two houses so diigo really helped me keep the webcites that I needed. Honostly I don't think that I can make much of a difference in the world. Overall, the change the world paper was one of my best papers

  25. Yes, I am very proud of my final product because I think it is a good piece of writing and is visually appealing at the same time. This paper was different from others that I have written because I did it on a wiki instead of regular paper so I had a lot more freedom when it came to putting in extras like pictures and links. The best thing about this paper was that we got to pick the topic, since CSAP and teachers in middle school give us a topic to write about and it is usually not very good, we had a change and got to write about whatever we thought would be good. If I could change something about the paper it would be my action plan because I did not fully understand what to do for it. The writing conference helped me realize my mistakes and how many there were of them. I did not think that peer editing was as helpful but it still helped with ideas. Diigo was helpful because I could use my bookmarks on any computer I needed. I think with the right amount of time I could make a difference in the world.

  26. After the last six weeks of working in our class, I am very proud of my final product. I got high grades on my homework assignments, and did well on class assignments. This paper was different than other papers I've had to do because of the vast amount of research we had to put into the assignment. Also, the action plan, which is our solution to the problem, is very challenging. I liked being able to choose the injustice that could possibly be affecting our lives. I would change the amount of time we had to complete the assignment. The writing conferences and writing labs were very helpful to me because it showed me all my mistakes with the project. The peer editing wasn't as helpful as it could've been. Diigo was a very helpful tool. I believe that anyone can make a difference in this world.

  27. 1. i am proud that i got my paper done on time but i am not proud of it because it was not my best work and i wish i had more time to improve it.
    2. this paper was diffrent from the other papers i have written because we had to find quotes to support our topic. and we had to sight out sourses.
3.i personally did not like this paper at all but if i had to choose something that i liked it would be how long we had to work on it.
    4. if i had to change one thing about this paper it would be haveing the abillity to turn it a rough draft before we turn in the full 250 point project.
    5. they were extreamly helpfull!!!!
    6. no helpfull at all.
7.i liked diigo it was very helpfull.
    8. yes anyone can make a diffrence in the world they just have to have the opertunity to do so.
9.i belive if i did this paper over again than i would do a much better job.

  29. I am not as proud with my poverty final as much as my abortion final, but I think it is just because i had more to say about abortion than poverty.
The paper i think was better because it's your choice but it takes a lot more time than any other writing project that we've done.
I liked that we got to choose our topic for the project.
I would change how much work time we get during class to work on it.
The writing conferences helped a lot because they would tell you everything you need to fix about it.
Peer editing was very helpful because you would get a lot of opinions.
I never really used diigo so it didn't help me to much.
I think i can make a big differance in this world if i got other peoples help.
I thought this project was good because people learned about how harsh things are in other parts of the world.

  30. My final piece of writing for the change the world paper has made me proud. I put plenty of effort and time into my paper as well as working my hardest. My paper was different from others because mine is a different topic and it was an unpopular topic. I tried to bring attention to my topic and knowledge to my reader about high paid professional athletes. Quotes I found fit perfectly into my paper proving all of my main points, the advantages and disadvantages. Peer editing helped me revise my paper because there were plenty of mistakes I have made in my first few drafts. Writing lab was also very key to the success of my position paper because I get one-on-one help from an English Teacher. Another tool I used was Diigo, Diigo allowed me to store all of my cited sites into one location online so I wouldn't have to worry about losing all my sources for research for my position paper. I put a lot of effort into my paper and I believe this paper was meant to help get students in the classroom think about the world beyond our school walls and try and make a difference in the world. I don't know if I can make a difference in the world but I am willing to give it a try.

  31. I am very proud of my paper about the topic of violence in Jerusalem. My thoughts, opinions and emotions on this topic informed and supported my writing. While writing this paper I thought about how different this paper was from others I have written. The difference was that I truly felt for my topic; I have never been so involved in a topic for such a long period of time and this allowed me to develop a strong opinion on what I was writing. In the future I would recommend starting the year with a Diigo assignment and keep including it throughout the year so that using it on projects like this one will be easier for the students. This assignment really opened my eyes on the power writing has to change the world.

  32. I am proud of my final paper because I feel that I worked hard and did close to my best work. This paper was different than others that I have written because it was written in a much longer time than most other papers I have written. I liked the writing conferences and peer editing because they helped to improve my ideas. Diigo was helpful to the extent of keeping track of my links, but other than that it didn’t help me. I believe that this paper is one of my better papers.
